Mathematics


Math 6
Students will study the six content strands as outlined in the Virginia Standards of Learning.  These content strands are:  Number and Number Sense; Computation and Estimation; Measurement; Geometry; Probability and Statistics; and Patterns, Functions, and Algebra.  Students will use "hands-on" materials including calculators and computers to reinforce mathematical concepts.  There will be a required SOL test.
Advanced Math 6
Students will study the six content strands as outlined in the Virginia Standards of Learning.  Advanced Math 6 classes are fast-paced with emphasis on higher-order thinking skills and problem solving.  Placement in this class is based on standardized test scores, grades, and teacher recommendation.  There will be a required SOL test.
