Graduation Requirements
Diploma Seals
Students who demonstrate
outstanding academic performance may also earn one
of the following diploma seals:
-
Governor's Seal.
To earn this award, students must:
-
earn an Advanced
Studies Diploma with a "B" average or better,
and
-
successfully
complete at least one Advanced Placement,
International Baccalaureate, or college-level
course.
-
Board of
Education Seal. To earn this award,
students must:
-
Career and
Technical Education Seal. To earn this
award, students must:
-
earn either a
Standard or Advanced Studies Diploma, and
complete a prescribed sequence of courses in
career and technical education with a "B"
average in those courses, or
-
earn a certificate
in his/her field from a recognized industry,
trade or professional organization, or
-
earn a professional
state license in his/her field.
-
Board of
Education Seal of Advanced Mathematics and
Technology. To earn this award,
students must:
-
earn either a
Standard or an Advanced Studies Diploma, and
-
earn four units of
credit in mathematics (including Algebra II)
with a "B" average or better average, and
-
earn two verified
units of credit in mathematics, and
-
earn a certification
in a career or technical education field from a
recognized industry, trade, or professional
association, or
-
earn a professional
state license in a career or technical field,
or
-
pass an examination
approved by the State Board of Education that
confers college credit in a technical or
computer science area.

Board of
Education Seal for Excellence in Civics
Education. To earn this award,
students must:
-
earn a Standard or
Advanced Studies Diploma, and
-
complete Virginia
and United States History and Virginia and
United States Government courses with a "B" or
higher, and
-
complete 50 hours or
voluntary participation in community services or
extracurricular activities. Activities
that would count include:
- volunteering for a charitable or religious
organization that provides services to the poor,
sick, or less fortunate,
- participating in JROTC,
- participating in political campaigns or
government internships, or Boys State, Girls
State or Model General Assembly,
- participating in school sponsored
extracurricular activities that have a civics
focus.
Any student who enlists in the United States
military prior to graduation will be deemed to
have met this community service requirement
AND
-
have good attendance
with no disciplinary infractions as determined
by local school board policies.
