HOMEBOUND SERVICES Bristol Virginia Public Schools provide homebound instructional services to eligible students. Homebound instruction is designed to provide continuity of educational services between classrooms and homes or health care facilities for students whose medical needs, both physical and psychiatric, contraindicate school attendance. Additionally, homebound instruction may be used to supplement the classroom program for children with health impairments whose conditions may interfere with regular school attendance. Homebound instruction is designed to be temporary. The goal of homebound instruction is to facilitate a student’s return to the classroom setting. A student is eligible for homebound instruction if evidence verifies that he or she is unable to attend the public school as the result of physical, emotional, or psychiatric problems. The inability to attend for medical reasons, both physical and psychiatric, must be certified by a licensed physician or licensed clinical psychologist. Eligibility for homebound instruction is determined by the Director of Student Services and Special Education based on the medical certification submitted by the licensed physician or licensed clinical psychologist. The necessary forms needed to request homebound instruction may be obtained from Mrs. Kerri Malcolm in the Department of Student Services and Special Education. These forms must be completed by the parent and the physician/psychologist and returned to the director for approval. |
