Philosophy:  The purpose of Van Pelt Elementary School is to provide an environment in which the student will develop intellectually, emotionally, and physically in order to become a contributing member of society.  Each student will be challenged to develop to full potential through personalized programs that provide flexible learning situations and a variety of learning activities, within an atmosphere of challenge and acceptance.

It is the responsibility of the school staff to provide each student the opportunity to acquire and retain basic facts, ideas and concepts, and to develop an intellectual curiosity and a desire for learning that will extend beyond the school years.

Each student is influences by the community in which he lives.  Therefore, cooperative and supportive interaction between the school and the community will be maintained.

The ultimate goal of the school's programs is to develop in each child that ability to communicate with others, the power to deal with everyday situations, the strength to apply rational thinking skills in solving problems.
