A WebQuest for
Elementary Students
SOL Science 3.1,
4.1, 4.6
Introduction
Do you walk around with your head in the clouds?
Do you look at the clouds and see animals and other peculiar items? Today
you're going to go cloud crazy! You have just been hired as Stonewall Jackson
Elementary School's new meteorologist. You will become an expert on different
types of fluffy white clouds in the sky.
Task
Your task is to develop a Cloud
Journal. In your journal, you will include drawings of the three different types
of clouds. You will also write a brief description of each cloud. You will
need to answer the cloud questions that are listed on this page. I have
made a handout for you. Download here.

Process
This quest can be done in groups or
single students, depending on class size.
- Use the Wild,
Wild Weather Page to answer these questions in your cloud journal:
- a. What are clouds made of?
- b. Tell
how clouds are formed.
- c. Give examples of
puffy clouds and flat clouds.
- Using the Athena Weather Page,
complete your cloud journal.
- a. What are the three types of
clouds?
- b. Draw a picture of each
type.
- c. Describe each type of
cloud.
- d. What type of weather does
each type of cloud bring?
- Look out the window! What types of
clouds do you see in the sky today?
- Make a prediction about
tomorrow's weather.
For EXTRA CREDIT! Check out the weather
in Honolulu,
Hawaii. What kind of clouds might you find floating over Honolulu today?
Choose a city you would like to visit and investigate the weather there.
Evaluation
- Make sure you answered
all questions completely and accurately.
- Check your work for
spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
Conclusion
You have now completed your Cloud
Journal! You should have a better understanding of the three types of clouds and
how clouds operate. You can try your hand at predicting the weather. Congratulations!!! You
have earned the right to be a Stonewall Jackson meteorologist!
