Bristol was settled over 235 years ago by Col. Evan Shelby and Isaac Baker.  Joseph B. Van Pelt Elementary School is located in Bristol, Virginia.  The Tri-Cities area is made up of three cities which are within twenty-five miles of each other.  The triangle of cities is made up of Kingsport, Tennessee; Bristol, Virginia and Bristol, Tennessee; and Johnson City, Tennessee.
