BAND

Students participate in the Bearcat Band, a performing group.  Performance activities include concerts, assemblies, festivals, athletic events, and parades.  The emphasis is on instrument technique, musicianship, and music theory.

Prerequisite:  Recommendation of the middle school band director and/or by audition by the high school band director

 

PERCUSSION  
1/ hour/1 unit
               9250 A, 9250B, 9250C, 9250D               Grades 9-12

Students develop individual and group musical skills in an environment geared toward the developing percussion techniques with various instruments. Students will participate with Marching Band and Concert band outside of class. The students will also learn percussion ensemble techniques normally not associated with concert band.

Prerequisite: Audition, Previous Percussion Studies, Recommendation of Director

 

MIXED CHORUS                
1 hour/1 unit                          9280G, 9280B                            Grades 9-12

Mixed Chorus is open to all students with an interest in choral singing.  The course emphasizes performance and the development of musical understanding and skills.  Studies include vocal/choral technique (free and open tone with emphasis on vowel production and clarity of consonants); sight singing (the ability to read and perform musical notation, both pitch and rhythm); and an appreciation of period and style in choral music.  The Mixed Chorus performs in the Christmas Concert and the Spring Concert.  Members may also participate in a boys or girls chorus and in combination with the other choirs.

 

CONCERT CHOIR  
1 hour/1 unit                        9285G, 9285B                             Grades 10-12

Concert Choir is a class for sophomores, juniors and seniors who have demonstrated their ability in singing, general musicianship and dedication to choral excellence. Concert Choir emphasizes performance and the continuing development of vocal/choral techniques and appreciation of a variety of periods and styles in choral music.  Concert Choir performs in the Christmas Concert and the Spring Concert and at area schools and churches.

Prerequisite: One year of Mixed Chorus and recommendation of instructor

 

CHORALE   
1 hour/1 unit                                 9289                                 Grades 10-12

Chorale is a select group of singers whose superior vocal and musical attainment make possible advanced choral proficiency.  Members will have demonstrated excellence in singing, musicianship and dedication to choral performance.  Chorale emphasizes extensive reading and performance of a large amount of choral repertoire while utilizing good vocal technique.  Chorale performs in the Christmas Concert and Spring Concert and for area civic groups.

Prerequisite: One year of Mixed Chorus and recommendation of instructor
