national association for the Gifted Children's Convention in
Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, November 4, 2006. Strategies
regarding your role in nurturing the unique educational, social, and
emotional needs your gifted child or adolescent will be explored
through sessions and dialogue with experts in the field. Come and

Dr. Sylvia Rimm will address the topic of "When Overempowerment
Yields Underachievement." Dr. Rimm is a
psychologist, the director of the Family achievement Clinic in
Cleveland, Ohio and a clinical professor at the Case Western Reserve
School of Medicine. She has authored many articles and books
including Keys to Parenting the Gifted Child; How to
Parent so Children Will Learn; Why Bright Kids Get Poor Grades-And
What You Can Do About It; Raising Preschoolers; and See Jane Win,
which was New York Times Bestseller and was featured on the Oprah
Winfrey and Today shows and in People magazine. Dr. Rimm is also
co-author, with Gary A. Davis, of one of the most frequently used
introductory gifted textbooks, Education of the gifted and Talented
(2003), now in its 5th addition. She also writes a parenting column
syndicated nationally through creators syndicate and speaks
frequently to parents, teachers, and children on topics related to
families and giftedness.

Insiders Account on the Elite College Admissions Processes has
been a best seller. Her experiences as an undergraduate admissions
officer at Duke University, who was responsible for the Top Tier
Program to matriculate the best students applying to Duke, provided
creative direction for her publications. Rachel will present on the
college admissions processes.
