College Visits

Remember, you have two college days you must use before April to visit colleges.  You must have fewer than six absences.  Now is the time to make a visit to the schools to which you are planning to apply.  Most all colleges have fall visitation days for prospective students.  Check to see when yours is and make a visit.

Potential Employment for VHS Seniors -

The town of Saltville, VA, has a new teleservices company which plans to employ 250- 300 workers with basic computer skills.  They are interested in current seniors or recent graduates.  Applications are in the guidance office.

Virginia Tech Pamplin Leader Award-

This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who plans to attend VA Tech and displays excellent academic and leadership qualities. You must have at least a 3.75 GPA and rank in the top ten percent of your class.

SAT-

 Remember to register for the November 6th SAT. You must be registered by October 1.

SAT II

Check your college catalog to see if SAT II Subject Tests are required.

Scholarships

Applications for the following scholarships are in the guidance office if you are interested.

  •  America's First Freedom Scholarship -

Students who wish to apply must design a poster, write an essay or give a speech on Religions Freedom: My Right -My Responsibility.

  • Roan Scholar Award-

If you are planning to attend ETSU, you may apply for this scholarship if you have outstanding leadership, character and academic ability, as well as evidence of physical activity.

  • Coca Cola Scholarship-

Applicants are evaluated on leadership skills, community service, academic ability, as well as evidence of physical activity.

  • Ron Brown Scholars Program-

To be eligible for this scholarship you must be an African American and demonstrate academic achievement, leadership ability, participate in community service activities and have financial need.

  • VFW Scholarship-

This scholarship is awarded to students who write and record the best broadcast script on a patriotic theme.

  • Jefferson Scholarship-

This full tuition, room and board scholarship to the University of Virginia is available to an outstanding senior who is interested in UVA. Thirty scholarships will be awarded from nationwide competition.

  • Wendy's Heisman Award

This scholarship is open to one boy and one girl who display excellence in academics, athletics, and citizenship.

 

 

Black Studies Scholars Weekend

If you are African American and have a 3.0 GPA or higher, you are eligible to apply to attend Black Studies Scholars Weekend November 19-20 at the College of William & Mary.

Prudential Spirit of Community Award-

One student will be chosen from our school to participate in this competition.  The applicant must have engaged in a volunteer activity that occurred after September 1, 2003.
