SAT/ACT
Seniors who are planning on taking the SAT/ACT may obtain an application in the Guidance Office.  Registration deadline for the May 3rd test is April 1st; and the deadline for the June 7th test is May 6th.  Register online at www.collegeboard.com. Our school code is 470 320.

The following information is about an SAT Prep Class in Verbal and Math skills which will be offered from 6:30-9:00 at Virginia Highlands Community College.

College Applications
After completing the student section of college applications, applications should be brought to the Guidance Department with application fee.  Since many application require a counselor letter and teacher recommendations, make these requests ahead of time, not at the last minute.  The Guidance Department will then attach the student's transcript, test scores, and recommendations and mail the application.  All applications should be in by Christmas break. Early decision candidates should have theirs in by November 1.
Scholarships
Each month, seniors will receive a letter listing scholarship offers that have come to the guidance office.  Check on the college website as well for their in house offers.  In the spring, the Awards Committee selects outstanding students to receive local scholarships.

Available scholarships

  • VFW Voice of Democracy Scholarship-You may apply for this scholarship of $1,000 by writing an essay with the theme "My Commitment to America's Future."  The essay and an audio cassette with your voice reading the essay is due November 1.
